What is a Comptroller? 

  • It is a title that describes his/her duties: Financial Officer in the Government Sector

    • Comptroller is a word meaning financial officer (Dates back to 15th Century)
    • Comptroller manages debts of the organization, provides oversight of the financial statements, provides audit of budgeted versus actual spending and investments (Pension Board Obligations)
    • Pays the county bills, maintains the books, prepares financial reports, pays employees
    • Provides managerial leadership

     

     

    The Office of the Comptroller maintains Milwaukee County’s accounting books, monitors and reports on budget versus actual fiscal results, prepares annual financial reports of the government and government agencies, and analyzes proposals for the use of County funds. The Office works to ensure that fiscal decisions are made based on sound financial information
